Family: Anatidae (Ducks and allies, 20 species in Australia)
Distribution: Most of Australia except the East half of WA, the West halves of NT and SA, and the very tip of North QLD.
Status: Locally Abundant
Habitat: Timbered areas near water; short pasture or herbage; inland tanks, dams.

About the Australian Wood Duck
A very common water bird. The male has a "mane" on the top of his head, hence its other name, the "Maned Duck".
